WARPATH (METAL BLADE RECORDS, 1997)

Nonexistence is a song from Warpath, Six Feet Under’s 2nd album, released in 1997. It’s also my favorite from the band. The track is, to me, a perfect death metal song!

Nonexistence is a mid-tempo, low-tuned, not too long, with straightforward riffing and ultra-low growls holding it all together. I enjoy death metal across different tempos, but slow and mid-tempo have always been closest to my heart. No wonder why I dig Six Feet Under.

As for the piece… In autumn 2017, my crewmate Soved invited me to paint with him at a local bar/venue in Lahti (FI). It turned into a fun project: we spent the whole day and part of the night there, painting while the place was being renovated, listening to music, and chatting away. Since pubs are usually quite dark, I chose relatively bright colors. Some people find it funny that my paintings often feature brutal texts while the colors are cheerful and almost playful. What can I say — while I love brutal music, I can’t resist painting in vibrant tones.
