Uni-Ball is a solid, high-quality marker that differs slightly from the Uni Pin series. It’s not a fiber tip, but a ballpoint pen — size 0.5 mm, water-based pigment ink. The markers are made in Japan but are available worldwide. Probably even more widely than markers intended for artistic use, since these fall into the office supplies category. These come in few different sizes and colors. Naturally I’m reviewing only one color option.

Now, about the ink: it’s deep black, which is exactly what I expected from this manufacturer. The flow is nice, but since the nib is harder than those on fiber pens, it reacts more noticeably to irregularities in the paper. It’s not suitable for covering larger areas, but it works very well for writing, outlining, or adding details like cracks and drips.

Like many other markers, this one also works relatively well with acrylics — or at least, white Posca covers Uni-Ball ink once it’s dry. However, I wouldn’t recommend writing over acrylic paint — or any painted surface — with Uni Balls, as the nib is hard and tends to get caught on uneven textures.

I’d rate these… well, I am not sure actually. They are good, but not exactly for my needs. The ink itself isn’t smudge proof but it still is both water- and light-resistant — and it also meets the requirements for archiving. So fourth place it is.
