THE DOORS | BAND

ACTIVE: 1965–1973

The Doors were an American rock band active in the late 1960s.

Their music was both dark and catchy, and Morrison’s lyrics were poetic stories I always found fascinating to follow. Either way, they truly left their mark on rock music and set new standards for how to perform.

I’m not exactly sure when I first encountered their music — as in actually listening to them. I suppose it was in the late 1980s through my little brother, who at the time was into all kinds of 1960s and 1970s rock. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors were in heavy rotation among his friends — that I remember clearly.

Oliver Stone’s The Doors movie, which came out in 1991, had a really strong impact on my crew mate Rosk, and after that I more or less couldn’t avoid The Doors’ music. Which is cool, because I (too) have been a fan ever since — even though I never felt the “religious awakening” so many people seemed to get from the film.
