Full of Hell is the sixth track on Entombed's Wolverine Blues album – and like the rest of that record, it’s flawless. Back in the nineties I wrote song titles and quotes from this album next to many of my graffiti pieces.
In more recent years I’ve continued the same habit, though nowadays the titles appear less on walls and more in my sketches and canvases. This particular Acton / Full of Hell piece was drawn in 2017, most likely during an artist residency in Marbella, Spain. I sketched a lot during that stay, though I never turned this one into an actual graffiti piece. A few years later, while studying fine arts, I reworked the letterforms into a mixed media piece.
About the process: I started on the computer by layering photographs I had taken of buildings near my home at that point, aiming for a look similar to my album cover work. I then printed the base image on heavy A3 artist paper, painted the Acton letters and some spray effects over it, scanned the result, polished it in Photoshop, and finally printed it at A2 size. The print was cut in half into two A3 sheets, mounted on plywood, and finished as a diptych. This work was never officially exhibited and is now in a private collection.
