Cannibal Corpse. That’s a name you’ve probably heard even if death metal ain’t your cup of tea.

They are a legendary band from the States, known for fast and technical death metal. Cannibal Corpse was originally fronted by Chris Barnes, a vocalist whose growls were among the lowest you could hear at that point. His delivery was (and still is) really unique. Barnes was booted from the band in 1995 but continued with his side project at the time, Six Feet Under. Cannibal Corpse recruited George Fisher from Monstrosity and have continued a successful career ever since, releasing plenty of albums. Personally, I think both SFU and Cannibal Corpse are great. I first discovered them in 1992, after spotting their name in Deicide’s thank-you list on Legion. I went on to buy their just-released Tomb of the Mutilated album without even hearing a single tune beforehand. The album artwork was more than convincing! And it still is a killer album!

During the early nineties, Cannibal Corpse might’ve been better known for getting their album covers censored than for their actual music. Their artwork has always been pretty gross — and I think every cover has been painted by comic book artist Vincent Locke.

In 2015 I painted a dozen of band names in graffiti lettering and nine of them were used at Art Goes Kapakka art event in Helsinki (FI). The reddish painting presented here was one of those. Color scheme for it comes from Cannibal Corpse’s The Bleeding album. Which happens to be the last CC album that Chris Barnes “sung” on.
