Notkea Rotta. What can I say... they are another Finnish rap group. Talented, funny and performing kind of fiction stories about the hood life of East Helsinki. Topics include: drugs, cops, hustling... well, you know, thug life in general.
But this ain’t gangsta rap — the guys behind it are far from it. If you’re not from Finland, I don’t think you’ll get that much out of them, to be honest.
I think I actually met the group once, when they performed in Turku together with Steen1. This must’ve been late 2004 or early 2005, although I’ve been listening to them since early 2003. I also remember making them a small website in 2005. They were about to release their second album Itä Meidän, but for some reason their original site was down and social media wasn’t a thing yet (except MySpace…). They needed a site fast, and since I was freelancing for their label Monsp Records at the time, I was most likely their first choice. Back then, in my “earlier life,” I was known for pulling off stunts like these on short notice.
Later when I got back to painting graffiti, I just felt the need to paint their name at least once. So I did.
