To me, Dismember — and especially their first few albums — feels like the evil twin of Entombed. They come from the same scene, recorded in the same studios, and even share that trademark buzzsaw guitar sound.
Nicke Andersson, Entombed’s original drummer, even contributed to their debut album by playing most of the lead guitars. If I remember correctly, he even drew the original Dismember logo.
Unlike Entombed, who gradually broadened their sound into what’s often called Death ’n’ Roll, Dismember kept their wheels firmly on the death metal path.
Back in the early and mid-’90s, Dismember was on heavy rotation in my Walkman. My favorite albums from them are the first three: Like an Everflowing Stream, Indecent and Obscene and Massive Killing Capacity. I wrote plenty of quotes from these albums here and there during the nineties, and once even painted a quick silver “Dismember” piece with Dams. Yes, the one pictured below.
